The annual Peter Pence collection will be taken up at all Masses next weekend. Peter’s Pence is the name given to the financial support offered by the faithful to the Pope as a sign of their sharing in the concerns of the Pope for the many different needs of the world and for the relief of those most in need.

The anointing of the sick will take place at the 11.00am and 12.15 Masses on this Sunday 18th June.

The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)                                                          Jesus gives his whole self to us and invites us to a deep union with him. We often imagine God up in the clouds in heaven looking down at us, maybe disconnected. The Eucharist shows us that God is involved in the messiness of human life, present to us in Jesus’ body and blood.                                    Bread is nourishing, bread is food for life, bread is food for the journey.                                                 Jesus is all of these things for us. Jesus invites us into a deep union with himself.                                     Flesh and blood means the whole person: “the living bread” invites us to an even deeper intimacy.

Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus – next Friday

“The essential nucleus of Christianity is expressed in the Heart of Jesus; in Christ the whole of the revolutionary newness of the Gospel was revealed and given to us: the love that saves us and already makes us live in God’s eternity. Even our shortcomings, our limitations, and our weaknesses must lead us back to the Heart of Jesus. His divine Heart calls to our hearts, inviting us to come out of ourselves, to abandon our human certainties, to trust in him and, following his example, to make of ourselves a gift of love without reserve”.                                                                     (Pope Benedict XV1)

“I do nobody harm, I say no harm, I think no harm, but wish everyone good. And if this be not enough to keep a man alive, in good faith I long not to live”

(St. Thomas More to his daughter. His feast day is on Thursday)

Tuesday is the Feast of the Irish Martyrs. This feast commemorates 17 Irish martyrs, men and women, cleric and lay, who were put to death between 1579 and 1654. St. Pope John Paul 11 beatified them in 1992.

“There is much need of prayer and penitence to implore the grace of conversion and an end to the many wars throughout the world”                            Pope Francis @Pontifex  - tweet of June 14th

“You need to know how not to worry and to trust God. Most of us have worries, most of us go through periods of darkness and doubt. That is part of living. There was a time when I used to get rid of the anxieties and doubts; a time when I used to look for certainty. Then I realised: no, what matters is to trust in God. Trusting God means throwing the whole thing into his hands”  (Cardinal Basil Hume)
