Pentecost Prayer Lord, I hear the wind racing in the chimney, the coal and turf flicker in the hearth, flames bright. Glad to be inside, I pray for your spirit to come, to invade my heart with a burning purity and fresh rushing power. That I may rest secure this night as a child of God, and go forth in the new day equipped as a fruitful witness. From Finding Our Way Home by Andrew Watson

Prayer before Examination Dear Lord, as I take this exam, I thank you that my value is not based on my performance, but on your great love for me, Come into my heart so that we can walk through this time together. Help me, not only with this test, but the many tests of my life that are sure to come my way. As I take this exam, bring back to my mind everything I studied and be gracious with what I have overlooked. Help me to remain focussed and calm, confident in the facts and in my ability, and firm in the knowledge that no matter what happens today you are there with me. Amen

St. Columba – Feast Day 9th June In the era of early Christian Ireland, St. Columba stood out as a stepping stone towards change. Patron saint of Derry and one of the three chief saints of Ireland, St. Columba began his journey studying at the monastic school in Clonard, Co. Meath. As old practices began to subside, a thirst for Latin and Christian theology emerged in Ireland. St. Columba studied under St. Finnian and would come to be known as one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. He is known to have transcribed about 300 books and find himself associated with The Book of Kells and The Book of Durrow. Columba would go on to set up monasteries across Scotland and Ireland in places such as Derry, Kells and the most well-known monastery of Iona. St. Columba spread the gospel to those settled in Scotland and among the tribe known as the Picts. There, he developed a guiding centre and brought literacy and Christianity to many rural settles in the surrounding area, binding his name to Scottish history. St. Columba passed on the beautiful island of Iona, in the monastery he founded in 597. Schools and churches across Dublin and Derry hold on to their history by bearing his notable name, St. Colmcille and on the 9th June, we celebrate his feast day alongside International Arts Day in his honour.
