A New Deputy Principal for Ratoath College
The new Deputy principal of Ratoath College is Anthony Malone, a native of
Lucan. Anthony is a graduate of N. U. I., Maynooth where he took an Honours
degree in English and History. He was the first recipient of the Jefferson
Smurfit University Scholarship and holds two First Class Honours Master Degrees
- one in History and one in School leadership. As part of his study for his
Masters in History Anthony spent eight months in Copenhagen, Denmark. While there he received a
further scholarship from the University authorities and was awarded the rare
distinction of the highest possible grade for his
work.
Anthony has considerable experience in various
educational settings. On completion of his Higher Diploma in Education he was
appointed to Lucan
Community College. He was
elected as the first Director of Education for Lucan 2000, a community
group administered by Area Development Management. Anthony set up and organised
a very successful annual school/community Arts festival and has himself written,
produced and directed a number of school plays. He acted as Liaison Officer for
Intel (Ireland) and
was actively involved in the initial set up of Dissolving Boundaries in
Education project, an innovative North-South
ICT project. Anthony set up the first second level games convention
in Ireland and was Manager to the under
16 Irish Schoolboys Basketball team. He has written and produced a Transition
Year English textbook.
For the past three years Anthony has been a Research and
Development Officer on the Teaching and Learning for the 21st
Century (TL21) project with the Education Department at NUI Maynooth. This
is a collaborative school-university project which works in close partnership
with Principals, Deputy Principals and teachers from 15 participating schools to
experiment with, develop and implement innovative, active teaching methodologies
that promote higher quality and more engaged, autonomous learning among school
students.
When asked about his appointment Anthony
said:
“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as Deputy
Principal of Ratoath College. Ratoath is a wonderfully, vibrant
town and I look forward to many happy years of working together with Máire, the
staff, students, parents and the wider community in building a school of which
we can all be proud.”
