Meath Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes (12-17 September) “The Joy of Conversion” is the pastoral theme for our pilgrimage to Lourdes this year. On Friday 12thSeptember over 800 pilgrims from our Diocese will travel to Lourdes, among them are many of our elderly and sick and over 200 volunteer helpers. These are important days for our entire diocese.  During this time we invite all the people of the diocese to be part of this great movement of prayer, which leads us through the door of faith and into the presence of God and his action in our lives. This is also a time to acknowledge with gratitude the generosity of so many people in our diocese who make this pilgrimage possible.

A one year course in Ministry and Evangelisation is offered in Ireland by Maryvale Institute (Birmingham). The course will take place in Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.  Students will be required to attend three Study Days in Castlepollard. The rest of the work can be carried out at home. The first Study Day will be held on October 25th.  Information from 044-9664127/087-2626738 or 087-9868125. Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.                                    Prayers for the Christians in Iraq
During late July and early August many Christians changed their Facebook and social media profile pictures replacing their usual photo with the Arabic letter “N”. This was done in solidarity with the Christians of Iraq and Syria who have been particularly targeted for persecution – along with some Muslim groups and the Yezidis – by the Islamist terror organisation which calls itself “Islamic State” (IS). This group, also called ISIS, daubed the homes and businesses of Christians with the letter “N”, for “Nazarenes” (a supposedly derogatory term for Christians adopted by some in the Middle East), so as to highlight the occupants as targets for persecution.
Since then it has been reported that many Christian men, women and children have been killed or tortured, often in the most barbaric and truly horrific ways, or dispossessed of their property or personal freedom, by members of ISIS. Pope Francis and many leaders in the international communities have called on people of good will to see this evil for what it is and to work to save all those who are being killed and driven from their homes by ISIS.
Please keep the Christians in the Middle East and all persecuted Christians throughout the world, in your daily prayers.
