                                                 Prayer for A New Pope

O God, eternal shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly care a pastor for your Church who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fr. Tom Meagher, a Holy Ghost missionary from Ratoath died on 22nd February in the Dublin nursing home of his congregation. He was aged 94. Tom was born in Ratoath on 11th February 1919 and lived for many years across the road from the local church where he was baptised and confirmed. He was ordained to the Priesthood in July 1945. As well as ministering briefly in England, Fr. Tom who first arrived in East Africa in 1946 would spend over 50 years in Kenya. He returned to Ireland in 2000 and was part of his congregation’s Kimmage Manor community from then until his death. He was buried in Dublin on Monday 25th February. May he rest in peace.

                                                Trocaire Lenten Campaign

This year the Lenten campaign focuses on India, a vast country that is still home to over a third of the world’s poor. Many of the rural population remain impoverished. Within the national borders there are over 230 million hungry people; the largest population of hungry people in the world. Over 45% of children are under weight. India’s poorest of the poor face disease, inadequate educational opportunities and limited livelihood opportunities. Many parts of India are also plagued by yearly drought or flooding – which has a devastating impact on lives and livelihoods.
