Bishop Matthew Gaffney

Bishop Matthew Gaffney will be re-buried in the Cathedral grounds following the 10 am Mass in the Cathedral on Monday next, November 2nd. Consultations with his surviving relatives some years ago indicated that they were most anxious that he be buried in the Cathedral grounds.     This year is the 100th anniversary of his death (he died on December 15, 1909) and in a few weeks time a book on the Cathedral is being launched.  This book commemorates the 70th anniversary of the decision by Bishop Mulvany to begin the project and the 60th anniversary of its Dedication in 1939.  In his first Pastoral letter as Bishop in 1900, Bishop Gaffney announced his intention to begin preparation for the building, in Mullingar, of a Cathedral for the Diocese.  Some weeks following the publication of the Pastoral, the Committee set up to oversee the project held its first meeting at which a sum of £15,000 was pledged - 8% of the final contract price.                                 Bishop Gaffney was buried in the Franciscan Church in Multyfarnham.

A meeting of the Board of Management of Ratoath Senior National School will be held on Thursday 5th November at 8.00pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

The year the Volunteer Missionary Movement has been granted permission to visit the Diocese of Meath by Bishop Smith. This weekend a volunteer representing the organization will be speaking at all weekend Masses.  VMM is a lay Catholic Missionary Organisation whose members volunteer to work  alongside local communities in the developing world.                               VMM was founded in Ireland in 1969, and since then it has sent more than 1500 missionaries overseas.  VMM recruits and prepares committed people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds to work in the developing world.  However, in order for them to support their volunteers and projects, they depend on the kindness and generosity of the public.                       So any contributions donated on the day however small would be greatly appreciated.

LMFM will record Mass from Ratoath at next week’s Saturday Vigil (7th November) for transmission on the next morning Sunday 8th November.

Children’s Liturgy Committee will meet on Wednesday next 4th November at 8.00pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

Taize Prayer

On the Wednesday evenings of November a reflective hour of prayer and reflection will be held in the Church. All are welcome to attend even for just a few minutes - listen to the Taize music, to pray for all in our community and to take time to pray for our concerns. The hour of prayer will begin at 8.30pm and conclude with night prayer at 9.30pm.

Altar List of the Dead                                                       Please take home a list of the dead sheet and return the completed list to the box at the back of the Church as soon as possible. All our dead are remembered in our Masses during the month of November (the month of the Holy Souls) and in the First Friday Masses throughout the year.
