Remembrance Sunday

We want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have died, to make sure that you do not grieve about them, like other people who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that it will be the same for those who have died in Jesus : God will bring them with them.                                                                     (St. Paul to the Thessalonians)*************************************************************************

It is right that our burials are performed with due solemnity,

For it is not a matter of simply committing a dead body to the earth,

but of gathering up the heritage which the dead person held in trust,

without losing the smallest particle of it:

just as one gathers the precious contents of a jar that has been broken.

It is not easy to preserve it at all; That is why we go on mourning the dead and observing their anniversaries. We are the guardians of their heritage. Each year we go back to this heritage as to a fountain from which we draw strength and inspiration. We are not reliving their deaths, but remembering their livesand the heritage they left us.************************************************************************* We thank you Lord for those dead who were dear to us,from whom such goodness flowed. We pray that all they held sacred and everything in which they were wonderfulwill continue to mean much to us and go on living in our hearts and lives.*************************************************************************Merciful Saviour, hear our humble prayer,For all thy servants passed beyond life’s care;Though sin has touched them,  yet their weakness spare.O grant them pardon, Jesus Saviour blest,And give their spirits light and endless rest.              (Melvin Farrel)
