Wedding Bells

The Church honours and treasures the married life of two people. Love is a wonder beyond all telling when it is experienced, and an inexpressible tragedy when betrayed.

At their best, love and marriage give us an image of what God is like. Couples intending to marry must give 3 months notice to Church & State.

16th Sunday of Ordinary Time

What our Sunday readings say to us today

“There is a need of only one thing” The responsorial psalm tells us what it is: living in the presence of the Lord. Abraham coaxes this presence: “ Sir, please do not go on past your servant.” Jesus enters a village and goes into the home of Martha and Mary. Yet, the “anxious and worried ” Martha prefers her trivial distractions to the winning attraction of Christ. “The surest sigh that something is off in Martha’s soul is that she even tells God what to do.”( Father R. Barron). Saint Paul attests that God’s stewardship is given to him “ to bring to completion for you the word of God.” Christian stewardship demands stillness, silence, and attentiveness before the Presence. To those who choose the better part, God chooses “to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery”.

Prayers and Blessings for the Morning

Lord Jesus, fill me with a desire to remain in your presence through everything that happens today. May I find you in the people I encounter and the events that take place. When I have a quiet moment, may I turn to you in prayer. May I trust in your love and care whether I am aware of it or not. I know you hold all things in your hands, and I pray to be firm in that confidence at every moment. Amen.

Lord, in the beauty and freshness of this new morning, I put my life in your hands once again. Renew in me the decision to follow you and to accept joyfully the responsibilities and duties of this day. Help me to receive gratefully the simple pleasures of food and drink, warmth and clothing and kindness from the people I meet. May I willingly take up the crosses and the burdens of everyday life as you took up your Cross for me. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, may this day bring justice to the oppressed, health to the sick and relief to those lands aflame with war and hatred. Help me to be an instrument of your peace. Amen.
