                                        Pope Benedict on Baptism

What happens in Baptism? What does it offer our children? In answer, we hope for a good life, a true life, for these children of ours; and for happiness in their future. We are unable to guarantee this gift by our own efforts so we turn to the Lord to obtain this gift for them.

On the day of baptism, the parents make a promise on the child’s behalf, to say “Yes” to faith as expressed in the Ten Commandments, these are not a pack of prohibitions, of “noes”, but actually present a great vision of life. They are a “yes” to a God (the first three commandments) “yes” to the family (fourth commandment) “yes” to life (fifth commandment) “yes” to social responsibility, to justice (seventh commandment) a “yes” to truth (eight commandment) and “yes” to respect for others and for their belongings (ninth and tenth commandments)

Let us thank the Lord for this gift and pray for our children, so that they may truly have life: authentic, eternal life. Amen

Parish Mission      “Time with God, Time for Me”.

The Ceili Community, based in Buncrana, Co. Donegal will lead a parish mission in the month of February.

v   The Mission will be launched on the weekend of 3rd/4th February

v   A National School Team led by Sister Ena will conduct the school mission.

This will be held over a two week period from 5th to 16th February.

The team will visit Ratoath Senior National School and

Rathbeggan National School in the first week and Ratoath Junior

National School and St Paul’s National School in the second week.

v   The schools will make presentations of their weeks work and will assist in the liturgy at the weekend Masses.

v   A team of people to visit houses in the parish will arrive on Saturday 10th February and will visit as many homes as possible in 8 days. They will be assisted by parishioners, who will accompany them on their visits to the homes. The visits will be short, just for a few minutes.

v   Presentations will be given to our Eucharistic Ministers and Readers during the mission.

v    The Church based mission will begin on Tuesday 20th February   and end at the weekend Masses on 25th /26th February.

The theme of the Mission is “Time with God, Time for Me”.

v   We will give more details of the Parish Mission in the coming weeks.

v  But for now we are looking for parishioners who would be willing to accompany a member of the visiting team on their visits to the homes. Can you spare one evening on the week of 11th to 18th February for this work?     All you have to do is to be with one of the team as they visit the homes. We hope you can help us and if you are willing to assist, even for a few hours, we would be most grateful. Please let Fr. Patrick or Fr. Gerry know in the next week if you can help us.
