Christmas in Haiti. It will be a difficult Christmas for many people in Haiti whose lives have been devastated by last month’s Hurricane Matthew.  900 people were killed and multitudes are homeless. Bishop Smith sent a donation of € 25,000 to the Church in Haiti to help with recovery.  Very many thanks to parishioners who gave generously.  A 5 minute video update from Haiti is available at www.dioceseofmeath.ie.                                                                                                                               Roy Hattersley (UK Labour Party), following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, pointing out that almost all of the charitable groups involved in the disaster relief were religious - “Notable by their absence” he said “are teams from rationalist societies, free thinkers’ clubs and atheists associations, the sort of people who not only scoff at religion but also regard it as a force for evil”
