We wish all the boys and girls who are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation next Friday every good wish and blessing for the day. We thank them for all their work in preparing so well for this day and thanks too to their parents who have supported them on their faith journey this year. A special thanks to all their teachers and all in the school who are worked to make this coming Friday such a special day for the boys and girls. There are two ceremonies – at 11.00am and 3.00pm

From Pope Francis’ message for Lent
"Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. Let us not forget that real poverty hurts: no self-denial is real without this dimension of penance. I distrust a charity that costs nothing and does not hurt.”

                                Trocaire’s Lenten Campaign
This year Trocaire’s Lenten Campaign is about the global water crisis. Worldwide, 783 million people do not have access to clean, safe water.
Drier climates across sub-Saharan African are leaving communities struggling without enough water for drinking, sanitation and growing food.
Enestina (9) is the girl on this year’s Trocaire Box. She comes from a small community in rural Malawi that has relied on a polluted river for drinking and washing for many years. The community depends on the unpredictable rains to water their crops, meaning they never know what food they can produce. Trocaire is working to change this.
In 2011 Trocaire reached out to over 450,000 people for life saving aid during the food crises there as a result of water shortages.
In Kanyera the average person uses 24 litres of dirty, untreated water a day that is over a kilometre from their home.
According to the UN figures 1.1billion people are “water insecure” with no access to clean water.
By 2020 it is estimated that water available for agriculture in the region will drop by 50%.
€2 a day will support a community to install an irrigation system or water pump. This will help families to increase their harvest from one to two a year and free up children’s valuable time from fetching water so they can attend school.
“Everything that is shared is multiplied, only when we are able to share do we become truly rich” (Pope Francis)
Please support the work of Trocaire this Lent.

Members from the church lay ministers have been trained up on how to use a defibrillator and we hoping to have the defibrillator for use in the church soon.  We are asking parishioners to give a little extra in the basket collection on the weekend of 5th and 6th April to help with the cost of the defibrillator.
