Lent: This great season of grace is your gift to your people to renew us in Spirit.

Lent in Christian tradition is the season leading to Easter. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer, through prayer, fasting and almsgiving for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the death and resurrection of Christ, which recalls the events linked to the passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lenten period of 40 days represents the time that Jesus spent in the wilderness before the beginning of his public ministry.

Lent begins on Wednesday. The morning Mass is at 9.45am and the evening Mass will be at 7.30pm. The blessing and distribution of ashes will take place at both Masses.

8.00am morning Mass for Lent: The Parish Liturgy Committee has proposed that the parish would offer an 8.00am morning Mass during Lent (Mon to Fri). The existing Mass at 9.45am will also be celebrated. It is hoped that this earlier Mass time might be more suitable for number of our parishioners. This Mass will begin the day after Ash Wednesday right though the first week of Lent to see if there is an interest in this earlier time.

This year is Trocaire’s 40th Lenten campaign. We are very happy to welcome a representative of Trocaire who will speak at all the Masses next weekend,16th/17th February which is The First Sunday of Lent.
