World Day of Migrants and Refugees

“Migrants contribute to their host country’s well being, and also because of this their human dignity must be r espected and their freedoms guaranteed: the right to a dignified life, to fair treatment at work, to have access to education, health and other social benefits, to grow in competence, and develop humanely, to freely manifest their culture and practice their religion.

But rights and duties go together. Therefore, at the same time, migrants have the duty to respect the identity and the laws of the country of residence, strive for proper integration into the host society and learn its language. They are to foster esteem and respect for their host country, even to the point of loving and defending it.” Archbishop Agostino Marchetto,

Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral care of Migrants Peoples.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 18 – 25 January

The ‘Week of Prayer for Christian Unity’ for 2008 celebrates the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of the ‘Church Unity Octave’ . The biblical text for this year’s week of Prayer for Christian unity is ‘Pray without ceasing’ (1Thessalonians). It stresses the essential role of prayer within the life of the Christian community as its members grow in their relationship to Christ and to one another. This text is one in a series of imperatives, statements in which   St Paul encourages the community to live out its God-given unity in Christ, to be in practice what is in principle: the one body of Christ, visibly one in that place.

Please pray for Willie Carey (Mooretown), and Kay O’ Loughlin (Ratoath Manor Nursing Home) who died recently. May they rest in peace
