World Day of Migrants and Refugees, 14th January 2007.

Today we are asked by the Holy Father to pray for migrants and refugees. The theme he has chosen for this year is ‘The Migrant Family’. Our Gospel today sees Jesus among friends and family for a celebration. For many migrants family celebrations further highlight ‘the hard trial of distance and solitude’. Our prayer today, in the Words of the Holy Father ‘means that the value of family is recognised, (in migration) which is now a structural phenomenon in our society.

Parish Mission

“Time with God, Time for Me”.

The Ceili Community, based in Buncrana, Co. Donegal will lead a parish mission in the month of February. They are a community of priests, religious and lay people. Ceili’s aim is to bring people together both as individuals and as communities into a deeper relationship with God and with each other through their Parish and Primary School Missions and through home visitation. The name “ceili”, speaks of companions, togetherness, hope and above all, joy.

School Mission

v   A National School Team led by Sister Ena will conduct the school mission which will be held over a two week period from 5th to 16th February. The schools will make presentations of their weeks work and will assist in the liturgy at the weekend Masses.

House Visitation

v   A team of Lay people to visit houses in the parish will arrive on Saturday 10th February and will visit as many homes as possible in 8 days. They will be assisted by parishioners, who will accompany them on their visits to the homes. The visits will be short, just for a few minutes.

 Parish Mission

v   The Church based mission will begin on Tuesday 20th February   and end at the weekend Masses on 25th /26th February.

The theme of the Mission is “Time with God, Time for Me”.

How Can You Help?

v   We are looking for parishioners who would be willing to accompany a member of the visiting team on their visits to the homes. Can you spare one evening on the week of 11th to 18th February for this work?

v   We are also looking for parishioners who will be willing to provide accommodation for some nights, on a B&B basis only, for a member of the mission team. Please let Fr. Patrick or Fr. Gerry know in the next week if you can help us.
